Julio Agustin Matos, Jr.

Julio has performed in six Broadway shows and is the author of The Professional Actor’s Handbook: From Casting Call to Curtain Call (Rowman & Littlefield). He has written scholarly articles on radical inclusivity and diversity in casting, including “Braving the Challenges to Re-Envisioning the Classic Musical for a New Audience” for the Society of Directors and Choreographers Journal (Summer 2019). Award nominations: Audelco Award, Best Director (La Dulce Caridad, a Latina adaptation of Sweet Charity @New Haarlem Arts Theatre, NYC); Syracuse Area Live Theatre, Best Choreographer (In the Heights @Hangar Theatre); and Houston Press, Best Choreographer (Guys and Dolls @Theatre Under the Stars). Julio conceived and wrote the libretto to the musical Movin’ On (previously Out of Line), with music and lyrics by John Franceschina, which had its world premiere at Pennsylvania Centre Stage with an all-Broadway veteran cast. He holds a Bachelor of Music from Florida State University and a Master’s in Fine Arts in Directing from Penn State. Julio is an SDC, AEA, SAG-AFTRA, ATHE, and CID member. He has held faculty or leadership positions at major colleges and Universities nationwide.
